History

ODDADA began as an accident. In early 2020, artist and programmer Sven Ahlgrimm, who originally had no musical background, built a small wave system over a minimalist tile landscape. As the waves rolled across the tiles, they triggered the little houses in their path, and the result looked suspiciously like the piano roll from music production software. Sven had never planned to make a music game. Now he was making one.

A few months later, sound designer Mathilde Hoffmann joined the project, bringing the musical expertise the game needed. Patiently explaining concepts Sven had never heard of, his artistic interpretations of her explanations became ODDADA's otherworldly instruments: Arpeggio Caterpillars, Ostinato Crabs, Synth Jellyfish and many more.

Supported by the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg games funding program, the two steadily grew ODDADA into a musical toy world full of loop- and step-based contraptions, where all the music theory hides inside the toys.

In late 2023, Bastian Clausdorff completed the team as a developer, polishing the game, keeping it in tune across platforms and guiding the project to the finish line.

ODDADA released on Steam on August 15, 2024 for Windows, macOS and Steam Deck.

Team

We're Sven, Mathilde and Bastian - a three-person team from Germany making ODDADA together. Sven is the inventor of ODDADA's curious machines, bringing the world to life with his art and code. Mathilde is the sound designer, in charge of making houses sing and machines drum. And Bastian is our seasoned developer, who makes sure everything is polished and in tune on every platform.
