Privacy Policy for the Game ODDADA
Last updated: September 24, 2026
This page is about the game — ODDADA on the App Store (iPhone and iPad) and on Steam (Windows, macOS, Steam Deck).
The website oddada.com has its own, separate website privacy policy.
TL;DR — Summary
- No account, no ads, no tracking, no analytics. ODDADA has no login, shows no advertising, contains no purchases and does not measure how you play.
- Your songs stay with you. Everything you build, record and name is stored on your device; we have no server that receives it. On Steam, the Steam client also keeps a copy in Steam Cloud. Otherwise it leaves your device only when you export a song or video yourself.
- Anonymous error reports, on by default, easy to switch off. If the game crashes or runs into an error, a technical report goes to our error-tracking service in the EU. It contains no name, no account, no location and none of your songs. You can turn it off in the game’s menu or in the iOS Settings app, and on Steam in the game’s Options menu.
- Achievements go through Apple Game Center or Steam. Those services belong to Apple and Valve and run under their own privacy policies.
- If you write to us, we have your email. That is the only personal data we knowingly receive.
- Your rights. You can ask us about your data at any time; the details are in section 11.
The full details follow below.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing in the ODDADA game within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Sven AhlgrimmMarksburgstraße 55
10318 Berlin
Germany
- sven.ahlg@gmail.com
2. How the Game Is Built
ODDADA is a single-player game that runs entirely on your device. It has no user accounts, no chat, no multiplayer, no advertising, no in-app purchases and no analytics. Apart from the error reports described in section 5 and the platform services described in section 6, the game does not talk to any server at all.
3. Data Stored on Your Device
While you play, the game stores the following on your device only:
- Your progress and unlocked content
- The cassettes you record: the music itself, the names you give them, and the stickers you put on them
- Your settings, such as volume and language
On iPhone and iPad this data lives in the game’s private storage and is deleted when you delete the app. On Windows and macOS it lives in your user folder; on Steam the Steam client additionally synchronises it to Steam Cloud (see section 6.2). We never receive it: there is no ODDADA server, no cloud of ours and no backup on our side.
4. Exporting Songs and Videos
You can export a cassette as an audio file or as a video. This happens only when you choose to. On iPhone and iPad the game hands the finished file to the system share sheet, and you decide where it goes — to Photos, Files, Messages or another app. Saving to Photos is why the game asks for permission to add to your photo library; it never reads your existing photos. On Windows and macOS the game asks you where to save the file.
The exported file never passes through us. What you do with it afterwards — for example sharing it on a social network — is governed by that service’s privacy policy.
5. Error Reports
When the game crashes or runs into an error — for example when a save, an export or the audio fails — it sends a technical error report to our error-tracking service so that we can find and fix the bug. This is on by default and you can switch it off at any time (see below).
5.1 What an error report contains
- The technical description of the error: where in the game’s code it happened (a “stack trace”) and what kind of error it was.
- The game version and build number.
- Your operating system, its version and the device model.
- The language your device is set to.
- Whether the game was running as a store version, a beta version or a development version.
- The date and time of the error.
- A random session number, drawn fresh each time the game starts, so that we can count how many play sessions an error affected rather than only how often it was reported.
5.2 What an error report does not contain
- No name, email address, account, device name, advertising ID or other device identifier.
- No stored IP address. Like every internet connection, the transfer shows your IP address to the receiving server; it is not kept with the report.
- None of your songs, cassette names or anything else you typed or created.
- No screenshots, no recordings, no file paths from your device.
- No play time, no usage statistics, no profile.
5.3 Who processes the reports and where
Error reports are processed by Sentry, a service of Functional Software, Inc., 45 Fremont Street, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. We use Sentry’s European data region: reports are received and stored on servers in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany) and are deleted automatically after 30 days at the latest. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Sentry in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. Functional Software is headquartered in the United States, so access from a third country cannot be entirely ruled out; the agreement incorporates the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses for that case.
5.4 Legal basis
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in finding and fixing crashes and errors in a game that we have shipped. The reports are reduced to the technical minimum, and you can switch them off at any time (see 5.5).
5.5 How to switch error reports off
- iPhone and iPad, in the game: tap the dot in the top-left corner to open the menu, tap the privacy button in the bottom-left corner and turn off “Send anonymous error reports”.
- iPhone and iPad, in the Settings app: open the iOS Settings app, scroll down to ODDADA, and turn off the same switch. Both places show one and the same setting. A change there takes effect the next time you start the game.
- Windows, macOS and Steam Deck: open the game’s Options menu and turn off the error-report toggle.
When the switch is off, nothing is collected and nothing is sent.
5.6 Deletion on request
Because reports carry no persistent identifier, we cannot tell which reports came from your device, and therefore cannot single them out for deletion. Every report is deleted automatically after 30 days at the latest.
6. Platform Services: Game Center and Steam
6.1 Apple Game Center (iPhone and iPad)
On iOS the game records your achievements in Apple Game Center. When the game starts, it asks iOS to sign you in to Game Center; iOS then gives the game your Game Center player identity so that achievements can be credited to you. We do not store or transmit it. Game Center is a service of Apple Inc. and is governed by Apple’s privacy notice for Game Center. You can sign out of Game Center or disable it for ODDADA in the iOS Settings app; the game works without it, and achievements are then kept on your device only.
6.2 Steam (Windows, macOS, Steam Deck)
On Steam the game records your achievements and a progress counter in your Steam account through the Steam client. It also reads your Steam ID locally, so that several Steam accounts on the same computer each get their own save folder; the ID is not transmitted by us.
Steam Cloud. The Steam client uploads your save files and your cassettes — the music, their names and stickers — to Steam Cloud, Valve’s storage tied to your Steam account, and restores them when you play on another computer. This is done by the Steam client, not by us: we have no access to your Steam Cloud files. You can switch it off for ODDADA alone in the game’s properties in your Steam library (Updates → Steam Cloud) or for all games in the Steam settings. Steam and Steam Cloud are services of Valve Corporation and are governed by Valve’s privacy policy.
6.3 Purchase and installation
Buying, downloading, installing and updating the game are handled by Apple (App Store) or Valve (Steam). We receive no personal data from these processes, only aggregated figures such as the number of downloads per country.
7. Links From the Game
The game contains very few links. On iPhone and iPad the only link is to this privacy policy. On Steam the game links to this privacy policy and to our Discord server. Following a link opens your browser or the Steam overlay; Discord is a third-party service, and Discord’s own privacy policy applies there.
8. Contact by Email
When you contact us by email, we process the personal data you provide — your email address, your name and the content of your message — in order to answer you.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. Where your enquiry concerns a contract or pre-contractual measures, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
Correspondence is retained so that we can refer back to it if you contact us again. Your data is not passed on to third parties. You may request deletion of your correspondence at any time.
9. Children
ODDADA is made for everyone, children included, and is rated 4+ on the App Store. The game is built so that this needs no special arrangements: there is no account to create, nothing to type that leaves the device, no chat, no advertising and no purchases. Error reports contain nothing that could identify a child or a child’s device. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Parents can switch error reports off as described in section 5.5.
10. Data Security
Error reports are transmitted over HTTPS, so they are encrypted in transit. Everything else the game stores stays on your device under the protection of your operating system. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect data against accidental or deliberate manipulation, loss, destruction and unauthorised access.
11. Your Rights Under the GDPR
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
11.1 Right of Access (Art. 15 GDPR)
You may request confirmation as to whether we process personal data concerning you and, if so, information about that data and the further details set out in Art. 15 GDPR.
11.2 Right to Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
You may request that inaccurate personal data concerning you be corrected without undue delay, and that incomplete data be completed.
11.3 Right to Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
You may request the erasure of personal data concerning you where one of the grounds in Art. 17 GDPR applies. For error reports, please note section 5.6.
11.4 Right to Restriction of Processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
You may request that processing of your personal data be restricted where one of the conditions in Art. 18 GDPR applies.
11.5 Right to Data Portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
You may request the personal data concerning you in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.
11.6 Right to Object (Art. 21 GDPR)
You may object at any time to processing of your personal data that is based on Art. 6(1)(e) or (f) GDPR. For error reports, the switch described in section 5.5 is the direct way to do so.
11.7 Right to Lodge a Complaint
You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR — with the authority where you live, or with the one responsible for us in Germany. A list of the European data protection authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu.
11.8 Exercising Your Rights
To exercise any of these rights, write to sven.ahlg@gmail.com.
12. No Automated Decision-Making
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to the game or to legal requirements. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date of the last update is shown at the top.
14. Contact
If you have questions about this privacy policy or about how the game handles your data, write to sven.ahlg@gmail.com.
